Abstract

The circulation of illegal cosmetics in Indonesia is an important issue that has a wide impact, especially for female consumers. These illegal products often contain harmful ingredients such as mercury and hydroquinone that can cause serious health problems. This study aims to analyse the situational crime prevention strategy by the Center for Food and Drug Control (BBPOM) in overcoming the circulation of illegal cosmetics. The method used is descriptive qualitative with literature studies from BPOM reports, BBPOM, and previous research. The results showed that the beauty standards formed by the media triggered female consumers to use dangerous cosmetics. BBPOM's strategy includes pre-market and post-market surveillance, as well as public education through the media to raise awareness of the risks of illegal cosmetics. The conclusion of this study emphasises the need for increased collaboration between BBPOM, media, and the public in crime prevention to protect female consumers from health hazards.
