Cogeneration is defined as the sequential generation of two different forms of useful energy (typically mechanical energy and thermal energy) from a single fuel source. Cogeneration concept offers significant increase in efficiency of energy system.  In some cases, it can save over 30% of the primary energy compared to a conventional energy system. There are various types of cogeneration system available commercially.  The technical analysis concerning characterization of electricity and steam/heat utilization, which leads to type and size selection of cogeneration, has to be done prior to its application.  Economic study can provide the picture of its economic benefit.  Currently, there is more than 1200 MW of cogeneration has been installed in various industries, however, that is still less than 10% of the predicted potential.  -  Vol3-No2-Juli2006
