Traditional Market side by side with Modern Market such as Hypermart , Carrefour etc will give a huge impact to the surrounding environment especially in rural area              ( rural = pertaining to the area outside larger and moderate-sized cities and surrounding population concentrations, generally characterized by home industry , small towns, and unpopulated regions ) . Lifestyles in rural areas are different from those in urban areas, mainly because limited services, especially public services are available. Because of  the development of the availability public service such as Modern Market ( Hypermart, Carrefour or even a Mall ) , the rural area slowly will change to an Urban Area , and as a side effect the community also will slowly turn to a much more modern community  and the tradional market will slowly disappear as time goes by . But the main question is : does the modern market is sustain enough for the “ex of Rural Community“ ? Because as we all knew not all of the “ex rural area peopleâ€? is a whealthy person , they still need a traditional  market to fullfill they needs , but the fact is many of traditional market were “ swept away “ by the modern market and seems that the local government ( PEMDA ) support those “unworthyâ€? movement by relocate the traditional market or even demolished them with “a full  forceâ€? to some other place  . Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs . Does the modern market shows ‘the sustainable development’    – Desember 2007 Vol 3 No 2

At the moment, there has been changes in Javanese people behaviour from traditional to modern. According to Wondo and Sigit (1985), physically those changes can be seen in “Sentong Tengah. Once it was a sacred room of the house, but now it’s functionally changing into a living room, family room, bed room or even a store room. These changes happen because Javanese people greatly appreciate the development, even using the development in science and technology to build their houses.
In the traditional houses matters, according to Rapoport (1983), the slowest changes (“core elementsâ€?) are values or their life’s philosophy, meanwhile the fastest changes (““peripheral elementsâ€?) are how they use the elements of houses practically and efficiently, such as the use of modern structure system without changing the traditional architecture form while staying contextual with the environment.   – Desember 2007 Vol 3 No 2
